Ashley & Jordan tied the knot on a very chilly yet beautiful winter day!
Here is the lovely bride with her flower girl, getting ready to leave for the church :)

A mid-morning photowalk with a couple Flickr/Twitter friends. We met up at an old church cemetery in North Waterloo. It was cold, like -15 degrees Celsius. I was only out shooting for half an hour when my toes starting going numb in my boots. Crazy! The other guys were there for an hour and by 9am, we decided to book it to Tim Hortons. The oldest headstone I saw was from the 1700s. Just amazing to see them still standing in this yard, somewhat legible. I definitely want to go back in the summer for a green grass contrast. I processed my photos with a cold tone and black & white; I think it suits the theme of these images. Another “back in the day” blog post: Portrait sessions with Candace. An aspiring actress, Candace approached me about having a few portraits done in June 2007, and then six months later in the middle of winter. We were able to set up in one of the boardrooms after work. The large windows available gave off beautiful natural light. Here are a few images I’d like to share here on the blog! There are a few things I would change about how I shot these portraits. One, would be to utilize my tripod, and include the use of the lightsphere. The Valentine’s weekend was also a long weekend here, with the Monday being Family Day. It’s a fairly new holiday – this is only the second year! WOW! I’ve been up to Tobermory many, many times in the summer, but again, never in the winter. It was pretty neat. I was just amazed at just how silent it was… I could faintly hear a snowmobile across the Big Tub Harbour, as well as a dog barking nearby. I was wandering around the lighthouse for about 20 minutes before another couple showed up, also with a camera. After admiring the area for awhile, I drove into the little village. Everything but the grocery store was shut down. Wow! I didn’t realize it would be that desolate in winter. So, I took a few shots in the area. It was really windy and frosty out, so I didn’t spend much time outside my car. Click here to view the set of Tobermory in Winter photos. …say that three times in a row! :-) I was asked by a co-worker if I could take some fun, silly family photos for her over the weekend. I had the time, so we made arrangements for early Sunday morning! Down in the Doon South area of Kitchener, we visited a few different spots to take photos. At first, the sky was grey, overcast and not very friendly. I was told that the three kids of this family were really shy – and the weather was not helping matters much! I mean, who wants to smile when it’s so dreary? I didn’t blame them! However, the BRIGHT sun did peek out from the clouds! We had a great morning after all. There are quite a few fun photos in this collection but this is just one for now! I was sure that January was going to be a slow month for me for photography. Not so! I had the opportunity to meet up with an old friend and her husband of now three years! Lucky for them, they exchanged vows in sunny Cuba and not in the cold of Canadian winters :-) We walked around Victoria Park in Kitchener for about an hour – it was really cold! Here’s a sneak peek photo. I hope to unveil the rest of the photos by the end of today! (So check back if you’d like!) *edited!* I’ve included a snapshot of the other ’season of trees’ I did a few years ago. Have you ever done this? Taken the same photo in different seasons, and then put them side-by-side? Please share it with me! It’s one of my favourite projects to collect over time! At my parent’s house, I took a photo of the backyard tree looking up in each season. It’s so neat to look back at them. Here is a tree in my neighbourhood that I’ve shot only three times, but come spring, I will update this post to include that photo :-) vibrant fall colours, October, 2008: My 2009 has already started off great! I was scheduled to shoot engagement portraits at Victoria Park on New Year’s day (thankfully, I had not pulled an all-nighter!) I must admit I’ve only shot portraits once before in the winter! I’m really happy with the way these photos turned out. Unfortunately, my couple were not that happy with their expressions. It must have been the brittle air surrounding them! I was even finding it hard to smile :-) I have included only a link to the images. If you wish to view them, I need to add you as a Flickr contact first. Thank you for understanding! Their wedding is coming up fast! Once I have processed those images, I will be sure to include a public post about that day. :-) Hope everyone had a great New Year’s celebration! I hope you are all sticking with your newly-made resolutions (if any)! |
