Another great summer getaway, this time it was on a ferry to Pelee Island, ON, the southernmost point in Canada!
It was a very hot day… but the water was perfect for jumping in. After the 90+minute ferry ride, I rented a bike for a couple hours and went for a bit of a ride. After that, there was no stopping me from jumping into Lake Erie. Yes, fully clothed.
I got a sunburn with my sunscreen, a few mosquito bites, and plenty of photo opportunities. See the slideshow below and click the link to see the individual photos. (PS – you can buy any of the prints you see here as well!)
I love it here, especially on a hot day. Don’t drive by too fast or you’re guaranteed to miss this spectacular place. There’s limited parking, and drive slowly over the hills in the area! Lots of people visit here on the weekends. Pack a picnic and your cameras, and please don’t walk on the mounds!

My husband’s grandfather is a expert violinist/fiddler, and we had the honour of attending his CD release party at The Commercial Tavern in Maryhill, Ontario.
The music was fantastic, the crowd was engaging, the energy was high and the food – excellent!
The first weekend in May is the annual town-wide garage sale in Mannheim, Ontario. My husband & I spent a little more than an hour wandering the streets, looking for decent sales and things we needed (and perhaps, things we didn’t). On our way back to the car, I found what I really wanted. Unfortunately, I could only assume it was going to be out of our price range.
It was here for a few days, then it turned cold again.
Wait for it… the warm air will return, and with it will be flowers of many colours, happier people in the public, and more photo opportunities – of course.
This weekend I hope to get out with a few photography friends. I expect the weather to be great!
Burlington Beach, Ontario – Summer 2009
I had the incredible opportunity to capture the ever-emotional Olympic Torch Relay in Stratford, Ontario, on Day 59 (December 27, 2009). My friend’s step-mom, Cathy Dyson, was the first runner.

The morning was spent outdoors. Not too chilly out of the wind, which is where we were: in the valley of Spencer Gorge, aka Webster’s Falls in Dundas, Ontario. The leaves were off the trees and blanketing the ground all around us. It meant you had to watch where you were walking!
I captured just a few images and certainly nothing fancy- I was enjoying the outdoors and all that fresh air… hard to believe we’re already in November.
(ps. I may like my wide-angle lens a bit too much. Is that possible?)
A mini Webster’s Falls…
Spinning! Don’t stare too long!
Having worked with the Waterloo Horitcultural society before on their Tour-a-Garden events, I was asked to shoot the making-of a new garden at the Waterloo Public Library.
It was a cool morning, but productive! About ten gardeners were out planting new vegetation, spreading mulch, and watering the new plants. It’s going to look awesome come springtime!

One afternoon in August I was invited to attend an annual barbecue with Christian Horizons of Southwestern Ontario.
Let me start at the beginning: I had first entertained the idea of using my camera as volunteer work in December last year. I have had so many opportunities with photography and I have been so blessed. It has truly expanded my horizons and opened so many doors to meeting new people., and during a conversation at a Christmas dinner I learned of an opportunity with Christian Horizons.
A few short weeks later I had a meeting with one of the volunteer organizers. There was a bit of a break in communication over the spring and summer, but we finally sat down and finished all the necessary paperwork!
To maintain the privacy of certain individuals, I’m not able to share the photos I took that day. Thankfully, I can share my personal experience with this fantastic group! The diversity of everyone in attendance, the variety of personalities was unique to see. The overall impression I had of this group was their passion for helping others. They have hearts of true volunteers. It was amazing and inspiring to witness.
I look forward to continue my volunteer work with Christian Horizons, as well as a few other not-for-profit groups I have applied at.
Last time I checked, gifts were for sharing and not for keeping to ourselves. That’s why they’re called “gifts”.
