Jason & Caroline Take On the Ride to Conquer Cancer!
A Northern Drawl, Carla Sacco & Neil Dirtyred Mooney were the performing artists, and they did a fantastic job keeping the crowd engaged & entertained.
Shortly after the event I learned that Jason & Caroline raised over $500 at the event, and over $5000 overall for their Ride. I wish you guys all the best in your quest!

Last weekend I had the opportunity to take photos of a seminar for the Quantum to Cosmos Festival put on by the Perimeter Institute. Neat! I have to thank my friend Jenn for asking me if I would be interested.

Saturday morning I arrived uptown Waterloo and walked over to the Princess Twin Cinema (after finding parking of course… sheesh!) Anyways, so I arrived, introduced myself, and got my volunteer shirt. The seminar I was shooting had around 50 people in attendance, with three panelists and one “gong man”. :-)

I kept stepping on the squeakist part of the floor which was embarrassing, but as far as I could tell, no one but myself actually noticed!

I stayed for all but the last ten minutes of the event, and although “The Art of Guesstimation” and dicussion of physics went completely over my head, it was quite interesting after all.

After the event I uploaded the photos I took to the Perimeter Institute’s Flickr photostream (viewable here), and one of my photos was featured on the website.

I’m looking forward to covering more community events! This is exciting!

I’m finding so hard to believe that it’s already the middle of October, that the leaves are falling off the trees (let alone changing colours!)

On Thursday I found out that I was going to receive a media pass for Oktoberfest this year. Awesome! This grants me access into (almost) all events in order to capture images that really say “this is Oktoberfest”.

The first event I attended was the free family breakfast and barrel roll, uptown Waterloo.

I’d just like to share with you one of the images… there are plenty more coming!

It goes without saying that I took this with my 10-20mm wide angle lens. And then, I downloaded a trial version of Adobe Lightroom. I used LR to edit this photo. I think I’m in love with Lightroom…

One afternoon in August I was invited to attend an annual barbecue with Christian Horizons of Southwestern Ontario.

Let me start at the beginning: I had first entertained the idea of using my camera as volunteer work in December last year. I have had so many opportunities with photography and I have been so blessed. It has truly expanded my horizons and opened so many doors to meeting new people., and during a conversation at a Christmas dinner I learned of an opportunity with Christian Horizons.

A few short weeks later I had a meeting with one of the volunteer organizers. There was a bit of a break in communication over the spring and summer, but we finally sat down and finished all the necessary paperwork!

To maintain the privacy of certain individuals, I’m not able to share the photos I took that day. Thankfully, I can share my personal experience with this fantastic group! The diversity of everyone in attendance, the variety of personalities was unique to see. The overall impression I had of this group was their passion for helping others. They have hearts of true volunteers. It was amazing and inspiring to witness.

I look forward to continue my volunteer work with Christian Horizons, as well as a few other not-for-profit groups I have applied at.

Last time I checked, gifts were for sharing and not for keeping to ourselves. That’s why they’re called “gifts”.

What an amazingly gorgeous day it was for a fall fair! The new grandstand (unveiled only recently) was filled, as well as the safe zone area surrounding the “pit”. There were midway games & rides on the grounds too which were constantly busy!

We arrived around 1:00 and chose our seats – front row, right in the middle! This was the perfect vantage point for capturing some of the action.
